Good Mic, please read!

Good mic, but if you plug it in to your phone and use the iphone onboard audio you may hear noise or it will peak (crackle) easily in loud environments. I downloaded Dolby On for iOS (its free) and it opened up a whole new dimension! Couldn't be happier with this simple setup as Id rather not buy expensive audio/visual recording gear.

So far so good!

For my first couple trials, I wasn't convinced this was so much better than the built-in iPhone mic – but I was only testing it with the singing voice. As soon as I tested it with voice plus frame drum (with 22 inch VERY resonant head), I realized that it is much clearer! The boomy muddiness is gone, and the balance is excellent.

The windscreen is invaluable both for field recordings and also for up-close mic'ing (I just used it for an interview to make sure I didn't have any plosives).

The Rode seems to decrease the volume just slightly, so for some instances, I have to boost the volume in post. But overall, the tone and balance is clean and excellent.

I did get a little extender for the lightning jack, as it definitely doesn't fit with a case on, even a super slim case like I use.

Perfect Microphone For Live Streaming!

I livestream almost everyday strictly into Japan, for almost 2 years. I show Japan all of the scenery and music that I can from my 18 wheel big truck.
In the beginning, I tried using the iPhone microphone, two or three different brands of microphone/headphone combinations, and even a Giant Squid brand microphone.
With all of those, my viewers had a very difficult time hearing me, most often complaining they could hear everything else, except my voice.
I was limited to where to place the headphone/microphone combination, the only place was to hang it on the door next to the stereo speaker for music.
Unfortunately, the tiny omnidirectional microphone picked up every bump and jolt in the road, distorting everything badly, and picked up loud gusts of wind outside.
It was no wonder why my viewers didn't stick around long.
Finally, I began searching for a professional solution. Based on my most positive experiences recently with Rode microphones, I started there.
There were some Rode microphones I was interested in, many that seemed to not help very much.
I was looking for something extremely high quality, would connect easily to my iPhone lightning adapter, and wouldn't pick up every jolt and bad vibration.
The result is what you see above! This plugged in easily to my two way lightning adapter, and was positioned away from the truck door. This microphone is directional, pointed mostly at me, or toward the door speaker for music.
The result is a Huge improvement! Several of my viewers expressed a much improved sound that wasn't distorted or distracting to listen to.
I played back my broadcasts in time shift, and I could hear myself incredibly clear! Not muffled or terrible!
The music still comes in nice to be heard comfortably. The only minor downside is during an extremely windy day. The microphone can still pick up the extra strong wind gusts as I'm driving down the road. There isn't anything I can do about that.
But when it's not extremely windy while driving, I was told the wind noise is much reduced than before.
I had my initial doubts buying this microphone for my big truck, but thought I would go ahead and try it.
I'm glad I did! Makes my live stream broadcasts much more popular and easier to watch longer in Japan.
